Hey there, welcome to visart.app! Great to have you here. This app has one simple mission:
Revealing the essential information hidden in reference images for drawing, painting, and sketching
Here's the thing about creating art from references – our brains are constantly playing tricks on us:
This app offers simple, intuitive tools to analyze what's really in your reference images. Discover true tonal values, measure proportions accurately, understand composition, and see colors as they actually are – not as your brain interprets them.
Simply select an image from our reference gallery or upload your own for analysis. No login required, no subscription needed – just pure, focused tools designed to help you see like an artist.
About the reference gallery: All images in the 'Simple Shapes' category were rendered by me using Blender. The 'Still Life' photos were captured with professional lighting (softbox + DSLR). These images are public domain – free to use in your projects! Though if you do use them, a shoutout to visart.app would be appreciated.
Whether you're a beginner learning the fundamentals or an experienced artist refining your technique, visart.app provides the essential tools to enhance your reference image workflow – without the complexity of professional software.
I'm Christian Limberg, a computer scientist from Berlin, Germany. By day, I work as a postdoc researcher in AI. By night (and weekends), I'm always cooking up creative projects – from 3D printing to music to art tools.
visart.app was born from my own frustration during drawing studies. Elements were never the size I thought they were, and values were always surprisingly lighter or darker than expected. So I applied some computer vision techniques from my day job to solve these problems, and this little app emerged.
I've kept it minimal and focused because I believe good tools should enhance creativity, not complicate it.
I hope visart.app helps you in your artistic journey! This app will always be free and ad-free – I hate banner ads as much as you do. They're creativity killers that disrupt the artistic thought process.
If you find this tool useful, consider making a small donation to help cover development and hosting costs. Every bit helps keep the app running and improving!
